Surface piercing overview

surface percingAn Eyebrow piercing is the thicker strip of tissue across and above the eye.

Typically pierced from above the corner of the eye, and inwards. Avoid piercing the eyebrow too near to the bridge of the nose as there’s a risk that you may pierce into a nerve cluster and this damage could cause partial muscular paralysis in the face. The opening jewelry is regularly a Ball Closure Ring or a barbell. Neither need be any more than 2mm bigger, in diameter or length, than the thickness of the eyebrow itself. Micro jewelry can be employed but increases the examples of migration or refusal. Customarily 1.6mm gauge jewelry is acceptable.

The Earl is the tissue that runs along the bridge ( above the apex of the nose ). An arched barbell of 1.6mm gauge is advisable, but if the piercing can be placed in enough tissue, then a straight bar may be worn ; micro jewellery can increase the probabilities of migration.

The Nape Piercing ( Medula Oblongata ) is anywhere on the back of the neck running along the length of the backb1. The Nape is ideally pierced with 1.6mm gauge jewelry, and ideally where there is sufficient tissue to pierce. Curved jewelry, or specifically made surface piercing jewellery and PTFE jewelry offer best chances at preventing migration and refusal, though both are unremarkable with this piercing.

The Neck piercing, often known as the ‘Madison’, is the loose tissue that is sat in between the collar bones. Ideally pierced with 1.6mm gauge jewelry, and ideally where there’s enough tissue to pierce. Curved jewelry and PTFE jewelry offer best probabilities at forestalling migration and rejection, though both are unexceptional with this piercing.

A Brooch piercing is a piercing thru tissue above the nipple, typically on the higher chest ; where brooches were, and still are, worn by women as an accessory. 1.6mm gauge, curved jewelry is better, as is PTFE or specially made surface piercing jewelry.

The third Eye is the skin just above the bridge, central on the face and either level with, of just above the eyebrows. This piercing is highly subject to migration and refusal. Superior 1st jewelry would be PTFE, but curved jewelry of 1.6mm gauge should be fine.
